Ubisoft Forward Recap - AC Valhalla Failing the Hype?

Ubisoft Forward Recap - AC Valhalla Failing the Hype?

Thursday 16th July 2020, 06:43 | written by: Gabriel Sciberras

This week, on the 13th July, Ubisoft compensated for the absence of E3 this year with their very own game showcase for 2020. Ubisoft Forward, as the event was called, showed off everything Ubisoft is currently working in terms of expansions, franchise additions and new IPs. Read on for all the details and trailers below!

Firstly, we'll start with the familiar franchises which are all receiving new iterations:

  • Watch Dogs: Legion

A highly awaited addition to the critically mixed bag of the Watch Dogs series. The previous titles in the series have always been praised for their interesting take on hacking within a modern world and pushing the possibilities while the greatest nag for the series is the fact that the open world is rather bleak when compared to the industry-leading GTA V for example.

Gameplay reviews offered similar thoughts: the world of London is thrilling and captured well, but gameplay can become boring quickly as the title becomes over-reliant on the only unique feature in hacking. The title releases on the 29th October.

  • Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Following the epic cinematic trailer released earlier this year, hopes were high for the next iteration of the Assassin's Creed series. Personally, I’ve always been highly skeptical of the series as a washed up franchise selling off of a name, cased with different skins or ‘time periods’, especially as I was such a huge fan up until Black Flag.

The reception for the gameplay was for the most part, positive. By taking an extra year to work on the title, the atmosphere, combat and side missions have been taken up well. The only encountered issues have been bad voices and glitches.

Will it live up the hype? I’m not too sure, but we’ll find out on November 17th!

  • Far Cry 6

Arguably the most anticipated title for the event, a new installment for the Far Cry series has been announced for February 18, 2021. Packing an all-new story with a well-crafted villain, the World Premiere trailer has got the community buzzing.

Other reveals at the events include:

  • Ghost Recon Breakpoint – AI teammates trailer
  • Brawlhall Mobile
  • Might and Magic Heroes Era of Chaos
  • Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad
  • Rainbow Six Siege 5 year Anniversary
  • Hyperscape
