Twitch's New Sports Category - The End of Cable TV?

Twitch's New Sports Category - The End of Cable TV?

I'm not sure if you readers are like myself, but the only reason my household still has a monthly subscription to a form of cable TV is for sports channels. The reign of Netflix, Twitch and YouTube occupies all of my other needs and it was only a matter of time until these services began approaching the notion of streaming live, traditional sports. Twitch seems to have gained a leg up in a new update covering four soccer clubs!

And no, these are no random, low-tier sports clubs. Twitch is partnering with four of the largest football clubs in the world:

  • Arsenal
  • Real Madrid
  • Juventus
  • Paris Saint-Germain

Amazon is finally realizing the potential in becoming an industry-leading streaming service for traditional sports apart from its dominance over gaming and esports. The aforementioned clubs have some of the largest fan-bases and followings in the world.

We've all heard of people illegally streaming sports online for massive events, only to get permanently banned from the platform. Now, the platform looks to offer more content in an organized manner and an exclusive one too.

Livestreaming major events are still being worked on, though that is the ultimate goal of Amazon's new idea. Once they manage to capture this notion, they'll be able to take over an ageing market of sports television by making it more accessible than ever. Of course, it's still up for debate whether such a service would remain free or involve a subscription of sorts.

This coming week, the page of https://www.twitch.tv/twitchsports will be hosting launch events to help the community discover the best sports channels on Twitch.

With two separate pages for both esports and sports, Twitch is embracing the potential in streaming everything from one platform and the endless possibilities involved.
