TteSPORTS Ventus X RGB Optical Gaming Mouse Review
Monday 21st August 2017, 14:39 | written by: Gabriel SciberrasAnother product, another review. This time it’s the TteSPORTS Ventus X RGB Optical Gaming Mouse which looks to stun with its approach to creating the best gaming mouse at the €45 price range. The product is one of the brand’s most recent, packing the latest technology and a fresh look to really shine from other mice. Time to review and find out what TteSPORTS is up to.
The innovation starts from the packaging. As usual, TteSPORTS leaves no surprises and always shows every product detail to the consumer so that they can feel confident in their purchase. They’ve cleverly done this by creating a book-like front panel, which swivels horizontally after detaching it from the velcro to reveal the mouse in a plastic mould which further shows more information about the product. This also allows potential buyers to grip the mouse. Of course, the rest of the box is littered with specifications and photos. Also, don’t panic about the 50G acceleration which is stated on the box; this comes deactivated when you first use the mouse. In the box are a couple of stickers, a quick guide manual and warranty information. Spectacular job regarding unboxing and being creative with how a product is presented.
Opening the box and pulling out the plastic mould is all that’s left to do. Putting the mouse where it belongs, on a high-end mousemat such as the TteSPORTS Draconem RGB for example, the peripheral feels at home. Starting with the look, the right-handed mouse combines a subtle look with unique honey-comb style holes at the palm which cages the RGB dragon logo. Turning over the mouse reveals three large TEFL feet, the PIXART PMW-3360 Optical Sensor and a little surprise that we'll weight to discuss. Sporting the dimensions of 128.8 by 71 by 42.6mm, followed by a 1.8 braided cable and gold connection, the mouse is a pleasure to look at. However, looks can only get you so far.
Performance and ergonomics make up the rest of the recipe. Holding the Ventus X RGB is lovely, you can really tell that TteSPORTS has really focused on ensuring the best experience possible. Down to the materials used, the rubber and plastic compound which does a fantastic job at resisting scratches, no stone has been left unturned. Continuing on the theme of ergonomic joy, the texturized rubber areas comfort the fingers exceptionally. The area for the thumb is curved inwards to compliment that of one’s thumb nicely. For the other fingers, aggressive grooves at the edges of the main buttons ensure that no slip-ups ever happen. Talking about slipping, the palm area is “aerodynamically inspired”. Yes, it sounds like some marketing nonsense; but it isn’t. If your palms are notoriously sweaty, the perforated surface is the solution thanks to airflow introduced from the understated slits towards the end of the mouse face and under the primary switches. Marvellous detail. When it comes to gripping, palm and two fingers both make use of the ergonomic designs of the product with claw also being acceptable. The only drawback that could be identified is the fact that the mouse is higher than average; this may throw off some buyers. Hopefully, perfomance won’t let down this, otherwise, extremely promising mouse.
Diving straight into it, OMRON powers all the buttons as expected, gifting the mouse with euphoric feedback and tactility. Regarding buttons, the programmability goes up to 6, including the dpi toggle below the scroll wheel which clicks and the side buttons to the left. The downloadable software may be used to reassign buttons. Mousepads, hard or soft, will happily welcome the Ventus X RGB due to its TEFL feet which are buttery smooth on most surfaces. This smoothness easily gives way to quick jolts, measured up to 250 IPS of tracking speed or extremely slowly thanks to the precise PIXART PMS-3360 which performs better than most laser mice. If the mouse weight feels off, feel free to remove the interchangeable weights at the bottom that are tucked in under a plastic casing. At this price point, adjustable weights are scarcely seen. Three 4.5g pieces are installed by default. As you’d expect, the mouse excels at performing when you need it most; in gaming. Every piece of information sent to the computer is managed by an ARM 32BIT controller, which isn’t drastically felt, yet it’s something to point out. However, with this comes the array of features which in many ways upgrade the experience but in some bring it down. When it comes to polling rate and response time, it’s nothing out of the ordinary, as everything is shown on the TteSPORTS Command Centre Software.
The polling rate(125/250/500/1000Hz) and response time(4ms to 32ms) are adjustable under the “performance section” along with options for lift-off control and angle snapping. Here is also where the dpi may be set up to 12000dpi, for some reason. Not being able to calibrate it to the last digit is a negative as it only goes up in rotes of 100. Dpi profiles, up to five, may be created with their own levels to add even more personality. Returning to the main page, there’s a photo of the products and a chance to reassign buttons. Profiles are nameable, right next to the setting for macros. Macros are noticeably easy to create and nothing special, but a great addition nonetheless.
Then, of course, come the RGB effects; all three of them under the “light option”. A selection between static, pulse and spectrum running isn’t quite vast, however, the fact that there are two different lighting zones makes up for it. If you haven’t guessed, these are the palm dragon and the scroll wheel. Separately customised, all 16.8 million colours can dance in a set brightness and speed. Sleep mode for RGB lights is also available, which lowers the brightness after a set time. A great attempt which produced a unique dual colour zone, both with RGB lighting to fill up the 256KB of internal storage.
Overall, the TteSPORTS Ventus X RGB Optical Mouse is a superb product which pushes the envelope from its design to all the features. The brand has stuffed so much goodness into this €45 price point which is so hard to ignore if you’re a budget gamer. Gamers.com.mt strongly recommends the mouse for competitive gaming.
