TI6 Prize Pool Record Officially Beaten

Once again, for another consecutive year, The International has become the largest prize pool in the history of esports. All thanks to the Dota 2 community. As mentioned in a previous article, in-game purchases were how gamers contributed.

It was definitely one hell of a contribution, funding all the way to $20,8178,353 from a mere $1.6 million by Valve. The company’s starting prize pool was identical to that of TI4, but this time it increased by a whopping 1200 percent. The record which was broken was that of $20,770,460 and it’s been done with 32 days left to spare.

The prize pool will grow further, by how much is uncertain. Yet, what is certain is the fact that Valve will be releasing more in-game purchases which should spike up funds. The group strage of the event begins on the 2nd August at KeyArena in Seattle.

It’s so inspirational to see such a cooperative community contribute so massively that the company’s donation is a tiny fraction of the total prize pool. Hopefully, other game developers could ensue this contributory basis so all communities can really show how much they care.
