The Nintendo World Championships Back this Year
Saturday 12th August 2017, 13:57 | written by: Gabriel SciberrasComing back from a year break, The Nintendo World Championships or NWC is going to be bigger than ever. 2017 looks to give players of all ages the chance to compete for prizes and pride. Last time the finals were held it was all the way back at E3 2015; let’s refresh our memories.
NWC is a video game competition series, organised by Nintendo and therefore all the games are titles of the company. Competitors fight to complete games with a faster time, highest amount of points or a simple multiplayer battle to become a champion in whatever title you choose to play.
Below is the reveal trailer for the event:
As shown in the video, the action kicks off on August 19th when selected Best Buy stores in the US will coordinate qualifying events which will filter out competitors either to the mainstage or back home. Eight localities will host the qualifiers, one for each day.
According to age, players will be allocated into two groups and, taking Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS for example, the two players with the top times at each of the eight qualifiers will battle it out in the final. New York is the venue for all grand finals.
As you saw in the video, NWC has come a long way since 1999. This year’s event will surely have the largest prize pools, greatest competition and the most modern technology available to broadcast and organise an awesome event.
