Razer Mobile Device Leaked Following Chinese Market IPO
Wednesday 19th July 2017, 14:21 | written by: Gabriel SciberrasQuite recently, Razer Inc. has sent forward an IPO, initial public offering, to the Hong Kong stock exchange. An IPO is a type of public offering in which shares of a company usually are sold to institutional investors that in turn, sell to the general public, on a securities exchange, for the first time. The definition is courtesy of Google. Apart from probably valuing the company at $5 billion, the application has also revealed their intentions for a future product
This light was shed by an internal source inside Razer. The company looks to create a mobile device that will target hardcore-gamers, which is no surprise. Such information is slightly vague; is it a smartphone? A handheld console? A completely redesigned laptop? Hopefully it isn’t like one of the underwhelming smartwatches which they’ve made in the past. What we are certain of is its release date scheduled for October and it being from Razer, expect a hefty price tag. The gaming company is planning to cleverly use the IPO to launch their product into the Chinese market.
Yet, we doubt a large company such as Razer has invested in a regional stock market just to prepare for a release of a single product. A transaction like this was probably done to a lack of presence in the area. According to the statistics, a mere 13% of all business for the brand comes from China. Compared to the numbers from USA, that of 50%, it really isn’t that impressive. What makes this odd is that Razer is a Singapore-founded hardware company. Thus, more retail stores have been opening to the East and future sponsorships will follow suit.
As of now, the company does have twelve teams sponsored in esports such as Team Liquid and SK Gaming; but no Chinese teams make part of Razer’s list. With the enormous esports viewership, it only makes sense to start sponsoring now.
Let’s just clear the air from all this sponsorship and economic register. What we’re really excited for is this leaked mobile device; comment below what you think it could be.
