Potential Nintendo 64 Classic Coming Up
Monday 24th July 2017, 03:59 | written by: Gabriel SciberrasLast week, Nintendo filed four applications regarding trademarks with the EUIPO, European Union Intellectual Property Office. Nothing interesting here. All these applications protected controllers, only two of which are currently produced. These two include the Switch and the NES Classic Edition, one was for the Super NES Classic Edition which is on its way soon. And the fourth?
The fourth controller was that of the Nintendo 64; but why would Nintendo protect a controller which only collectors would have at this point in time. Production was halted in 2003, so this “consumer video game apparatus” is a weird choice. However, as you can tell where this is going, a logical conclusion deduces an upcoming N64 Classic Edition. Reasons include recent investments into restoring old consoles such as the NES and Super NES, and this recent application is another point. Such speculation is very respectable.
It would, undoubtedly, sell out immediately. Retailing would resemble that of the smaller version of the NES last November, sold out instantly. This product was stopped last April however, so don’t expect a remastered Nintendo 64 to last forever in availability. The SNES looks to have the same outcome.
Hopefully 2018 will come with this delightful surprise.
