Part 2 - The Minor Tournaments and Casual Players at the MCS #4
Sunday 24th June 2018, 15:28 | written by: Gabriel SciberrasRecently we revealed the Major Tournaments to be featured at the Malta Cyber Series #4; including the games of League of Legends, Battalion 1944 and CS:GO. Of course, a percentage of local competitors are invested in other titles - that's why we announced the first part of the Minor Tournaments that will be featured during the 3 day event namely Rocket League, Hearthstone, DOTA 2 and Rainbow 6. Although they've got lesser stakes, they act as the trial grounds for new games and areas for smaller scenes to enjoy. Let's see what other titles we have in store.
The end of 2017 and 2018, in terms of gaming, have been marked by the immense popularity of the Battle Royale Genre, perhaps to the point of excess. First came PUBG, with its incredible appeal to the public, which was then overshadowed by Fortnite in concerns to public affinity. To say that these titles are huge at the moment is quite the understatement. It's for this reason, that Gamers.com.mt is proud to reveal the featuring of PUBG and Fortnite at the Malta Cyber Series #4.
Both titles are still starting out on the international esports spectrum. PUBG has already had a few tournaments both internationally and locally, with many scheduled for this year. Last year, Malta witnessed the first PUBG LAN tournament at The GO Malta Esports Festival 2017 which we organized last year where PUBG has received quite the number of updates since.
What about Fortnite? There's no need to introduce this little game, as it's breached the internet like a plague all over social media, content websites and the news - leading to the foolish diagnosis of gaming addiction as a mental disease. Of course, we'd like to refer to the positive side of the title; being its immense replayability, ease of access and social atmosphere; everyone's played Fortnite. For 2018, Epic Games has revealed a budget of $100,000,000 for esports tournaments - which is incredible. Locally, the MCS #4 will be the first instance of Fortnite competition - we find out who the best player is in Malta! Should the tournament succeed as we expect it to, we'll look forward to including Fortnite in future events.
