Ozone Giants Pro Gaming Mousepad Review

A giant opportunity

Ozone Gaming strives to show support to a multitude of teams across the global spectrum to make the gaming scene expand so that we can all enjoy the best show of the 21^st century; esports. The company sometimes does so by creating products themed around a certain themes so that eccentric fans can associate themselves further with their pro team, but these products aren’t just for specific fans. The Ozone Giants Mouse pad is said to be ‘Pro’: I guess we’ll have to ensure that this statement is true.

Before even diving into the product, I must provide a little background on Giants Gaming for presentation reasons. GG has been a heavy and loyal representative of the Ozone brand ever since 2010. Of course, the team’s been around for more than that, a couple years more, and has spread its reach into FIFA, Call of Duty, Counter Strike, Battlefield and LoL. The team is based in Spain and with Ozone also being a Spanish company; the sponsorship was bound to occur eventually. They have definitely made a name for themselves across Europe with much thanks to Ozone’s support. The pad comes in a lovely black and blue package, hinting at the colour scheme of the product rolled inside. On the outside of the box is a little circle for prospective customers to feel the fabric and an arousing statement which describes how the mat gives the consumer ‘power’.  Nothing accompanies the product in the box except for the smell of brand new rubber. Time to throw it onto a desk and see the aesthetics paired with performance.

Covering an area of 400x450 mm are the traditional Giants Gaming colours of light blue, white and black. The sea of blue dominates the colours for the most part, disturbed by the white symbol of GG in the bottom right corner and a wording of ‘ozone’ quietly occupying the top left-hand side. A thick black outline traps the other colours inside the square frame. Overall, colours are bright and vibrant, but what about the materials?

Where your mouse will sweep about, lays a thermally treated cloth surface. Being a tough microfiber texture which promises a very high reliability and delivers. Using a high-end mouse on it was an accurate experience with minimal hiccups and imprecisions. A mutual user experience should be felt with all mice, due to a full compatibility with all types.  The size of the mouse was always more than enough to handle quick jerks and vast swoops.  Due to the thickness of the black surrounding, it helped on a few occasions when my mouse was dangerously close to going off the edge but stopped by it. Yet, this specific part of the mouse does cause a few problems which have to be addressed.

To begin with, due to the relative inflexibility of the thick black material, fatigue from being rolled up still remains and doesn’t allow the top and bottom edges to be flat even after a week. Another issue is its effect on the lower wrist. If in game, your wrist happens to run against the black outline, the tough material makes it rather unfriendly to skin grazing against it. A minor flaw which can be avoided using careful wrist placement.  

The only thing left to review is the bottom surface; a foam non-slip rubber base which will obediently stay wherever one decides to put it. It should fare well on most surfaces, such as glass, wood, ceramic or whatever kind of surface you’re gaming on. A 4mm thickness also helps with positioning, granting a little weight and enough padding to smooth out any bumps or holes in the below table-top.

All-in-all, the Ozone Giants Mousepad is a great product to watch out for which proudly sports the Giants Gaming spectrum. You know what’s even better? The price. Coming in at around €20, it couldn’t get any more persuasive. This mousepad sits in a balanced position which favours professionals as well as casuals mutually.
