NiP Signs a PUBG Team
Wednesday 11th October 2017, 06:34 | written by: Gabriel SciberrasNinjas in Pyjamas, having teams in some of the largest esports such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, has decided to follow the trend with a PUBG squad of their own. The organisation eagerly revealed the news on Twitter this past week:
"Today we're glad to announce our venture in to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, the game many of us have that special love/hate relationship with ever since its explosive launch in late March this year. With such a rapid growth in playerbase and millions of gamers dropping onto the island of Erangel every single day, we're happy to see that this game has struck the hearts of gaming enthusiasts all across the globe. Of course the Ninjas in Pyjamas want to be a part of that journey."
The roster consists of "Ekkz", "Borg" (sadly he isn't Maltese), "Sweaterr" and "Crunch". All the names except "Ekkz" may seem familiar for competitive PUBG enthusiasts. This is because the three other names represented Cloud9 at the gamescom Invitational. Evidently, either C9 let them go or the players left. Below is a statement from "Ekkz":
"The Dream big or go home quote comes to mind, it doesn't get much bigger than NiP, and our dreams have become a reality, We're honored to be under the same banner with so many legends, and look forward to a great future with our new home and family. Can't wait to see what we can achieve together as Ninjas!"
It's great to see more organisations getting involved and preparing themselves for an esport which could potentially blow up just like the game's community.
Other news in the scene include the upcoming IEM Oakland's PUBG Invitational. With the first four teams being revealed, namely Luminosity, TSM, Team Liquid and Noble Esports. The $200,000 worth of prize pool will be contested by 6 other teams to be revealed soon. All the action will take place Nov.18 and 19; just a week before the GO Malta eSports Festival 2017 where we'll have a PUBG event of our own!
