Motion-controlled competitive gaming?

On the 16th of June, ARMS, a motion-controller based title, will be released on the Nintendo Switch. This fighting game doesn’t appear out of the ordinary, but what producer Kosube Yabuki stated certainly does. Mr. Yabuki believes in a possibility, that ARMS may have a chance at esports, only if there is the much-needed support from Nintendo.It would definitely shake things up, with elements that no esports has ever had.

ARMS competitive gaming will probably be physically challenging, a problem which professional gamers barely ever encounter. However, a question which does arise is; are the motion-controller gyroscopes reliable enough to nurture any esports? The producer has stated;

I actually think ARMS might be the first game that has such depth with its technique in its motion controls. I think it would be great if ARMS were to become an eSport, but it's not quite clear yet whether Nintendo will go down that path and become a proper eSport.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Nintendo to really show off the Switch’s hardware quality, yet it could also be a statement regarding the impossibility of motion-controller esports. It’s up to Nintendo to decide.
