Ghost of Tsushima - Smashing Sales Records

I think it's no surprise, the new title of Ghost of Tsushima has quickly become a console-seller for the PS4. So late into the console's lifecycle, nobody expected such a title right before the release of the PS5. In this discussion, we'll be tackling the records broken by the title already. 

Developed by Sucker Punch and published by Sony, the third-person narrative adventure follows a heart-racing quest in a Japanese Civil War environment. Just recently, Sony released the following tweet: 

Indeed, Ghost of Tsushima has sold over 2.4 million copies in just 3 days. This smashes the record for a new IP on PS4 - for comparison, Horizon Zero Dawn garnered 2.6 million copies after 2 weeks! 

What's an 'IP'? An intellectual property, in the gaming industry, oftentimes refers to the identity of a series - each new Call of Duty title falls under the IP of 'Call of Duty'. Ghost of Tsushima hasn't beaten out titles such as God of War or the recent The Last of Us II, but those have had established IPs for years. 

Overall, Ghost of Tsushima is an incredible game, one which took a risk and tackled a new angle on an untouched culture. Beloved by the community for its beauty and mastery as a piece of art, the gameplay matches in satisfaction and seamlessness.

Has the current pandemic helped sales out? I think we can all logically agree that yes, that probably contributed to the attention the title received due to its perfect timing. Sucker Punch has experience in developing successful first-party titles for the PS4, as they are also responsible for the respectable Infamous series of games. 

Every series Sucker Punch has developed - Infamous and Sly Cooper, has resulted in multiple iterations of each series. I know it's early to discuss, but I wouldn't be shocked to find out that a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima is under development in the upcoming years.
