G2 Esports Win DreamHack Masters Malmo
Tuesday 5th September 2017, 08:26 | written by: Gabriel SciberrasWith five days of competition finally ending, G2 esports walk home with $100,000 along with a boosted reputation in the community after finishing first. Their journey was one riddled with fierce opposition, but not fierce enough as one may assume. Everything fell on the grand final which occurred on Sunday 3rd September against none other than North.
The mentioned game started with a bang as the Frenchmen came out hot to leave behind them an 11-4 lead by half time as Terrorists. North answered back in the second half, yet it wasn’t a sufficient reply as G2 took Inferno with a final score of 16-12. Such a scoreline could have been different if more of North’s players showed up, since “k0nfig” had almost double the kills of every teammate.
However, North found their stride on Cobblestone as they mounted an early 7-3 lead which practically evaporated as G2 cameback in epic fashion, giving North just one round until the first half was done. This left the scoreline at 8-7. The Danes were quickly demoralised, and this low morale made its way into the second half. Correspondingly, the game ended with a 16-9 scoreline to allow “KennyS” and crew to take home the victory.
Could this be a new era for G2 Esports? We can’t be sure for now, but we’ll definitely find out in a week’s time as the team must battle their way out of a tough Group A in the ELEAGUE.
