CS:GO updates stops spam invites to Steam groups

Obviously, one should steer clear of these links. Yet, some gamers have learnt the hard way. Countering the spam involved setting profile and inventory status to private- but not anymore.
Following a much needed update to the group invite system, you shouldn’t fear setting everything back to public, at least for now. If you’ve never met the problem, here’s the breakdown. Bots were spamming Steam inboxes with invites to fake groups through the apparent aim of granting “free” weapon skins and tokens. This was carried out successfully thanks to the bots’ capability of somehow calculating the value of one’s inventory, advertising their sites to the more valuable players. It’s not a surprise to find out that most links were pure malware.
Valve recognised the growing threat and has quickly changed the invitation system slightly. Now it is only possible to send such requests to gamers within your friends list, a reasonable change.
At the moment, the spam has died down considerably, but we all subconsciously expect them to somehow dodge the patch. Watch out who, or what, you add to your friends list.
