Call of Duty Black Ops - Cold War - Where is it?

Call of Duty Black Ops - Cold War - Where is it?

Usually, as has been the case for the past four or five years, the release cycle for Call of Duty involves a title being revealed at the end of May and then published in the following October. This cycle has taken place over and over. However, this year seems to be different due to some problems during publishing. Let's take a look at everything we know about the rumoured next game of Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War.

First off, let's identify the problem. Sledgehammer Games, the developers behind Call of Duty: World War II, were tasked to develop this year's game as part of the three-year cycle. Earlier this year though, the developer made it clear that it wouldn't make the timeframe. Hence, Activision passed the mantle to Treyarch. All in all, Treyarch now have had their three-year cycle cut into two years with the community expectations unchanged.

Supposedly, the next Call of Duty has been leaked to be called Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War. This was further confirmed when a Doritos promotion slapped the name behind some of its unreleased products.

Another thing - it's July, almost heading into August - and barely any information has been provided. A trailer, according to the usual yearly schedule, was supposed to drop in May. My personal worry is that the game will not be developed in time.

Is that such a bad thing? Honestly, it might not be. With how well Modern Warfare is doing, all thanks to the incredible addition of Warzone, an extension of the deadline might not be so major. Regardless of if another game comes out or not, Warzone's time is far from up.

In terms of gameplay, the community is convinced that the title will return to the formula which makes Treyarch so beloved as a developer - some have it as a spiritual successor to the title of World at War. Titles are still being thrown around too, such as 'Red Door' and Call of Duty:Vietnam'.

All in all, I'd expect the next Call of Duty trailer to drop sometime in August during Call of Duty Championship 2020, when the next CoD is always showcased. If not, I wouldn't be surprised if the next title is simply delayed, especially due to the problems brought thanks to our favourite virus, COVID-19.
