After unveiling their brand new console; the Ataribox, the iconic gaming company has been trying to mount a comeback. However, what they revealed next was rather odd. Part of the Atari Connected Life product line is the Speakerhat.

The concept is straight forward and respects the name. Aesthetically, it resembles any other ordinary baseball cap until it comes to the bill – where a couple speakers have been planted. Using Bluetooth, the cap promises wireless audio. To further control the device, there’s even a microphone which dares to accept voice commands to even initiate phone calls; answering a call on a hat is probably the funniest idea we’ve heard all year.  Among the features is Social Synchronous Broadcast technology, which lets those who buy the product listen to the same audio stream. Atari have also assured a comfortable experience.

Is this a dumb product? Definitely. First of all, a hat will be exposed to the elements; perhaps rain and sun, which is not ideal for speakers. Then there is the insensitivity of it, imagine using it in public or even in private circumstances. Then comes the fact that it’s wireless; how on Earth should one charge his hat every day? So after you’ve charge your phone, your speaker, maybe your smartwatch, you’ve got to charge your hat too. The product surely fits the Atari Connected Life statement; but in this case it’s too much.
